Apple Watch receives a native workout. Garmin and generic destinations receive a planned-workout file. Text is reference only.

Apple Watch

Add a native custom pool swim.

Swimming custom workouts arrived with iOS 18 and watchOS 11. Slow N Steady checks Apple's support and scheduling permission before adding one.

01

Keep the set structure

Distance work, fixed-time recovery, warmup, cooldown, and supported goals become native Workout app steps. Repeat blocks stay grouped.

02

Use swim CV

When swim critical-velocity pace is saved, eligible distance steps also receive a target time. The step advances after its distance and time goals are complete.

03

Set pool length on Watch

The Workout app asks for pool length when the workout starts. Slow N Steady does not preselect it in the Apple Watch handoff.

04

Record in Apple's Workout app

Apple Watch records the swim in Apple's system. Slow N Steady does not currently receive the completed Watch workout back automatically.

This is a pool-swimming path.

Slow N Steady creates the Apple workout with an indoor swimming location. It does not create a structured open-water swim. Stroke and equipment prescriptions are not added because the current workout catalog does not prescribe them.

Requirements:Use an iPhone running iOS 18 or newer and a compatible paired Apple Watch running watchOS 11 or newer with the Workout app installed. Allow Slow N Steady to schedule workouts.

Workout files

The swim FIT file is a planned pool workout.

It is not a completed activity, an account sync, or proof that every watch and app accepts imported swim workouts.

Garmin compatibility:The file is marked Swimming / Lap Swimming and includes your pool length, distance sets, timed recovery, intensity, and notes. The file itself has been validated, but behavior can vary by device. Test a short workout on your watch first.
01

Choose the actual pool

Select 25 yd, 25 m, or 50 m before building the file. Garmin's FIT swim-workout profile requires a pool length.

02

Keep valid swim steps

Active sets use distance. Recovery uses time or an open lap-button step. Repeats are expanded in order for broad file compatibility.

03

Keep pace as guidance

Saved swim CV adds personal pace text to step notes. FIT's swim target field is for stroke, so Slow N Steady does not invent a portable pace target or stroke.

04

Transfer the file yourself

Use Files, AirDrop, email, or a computer. For Garmin, copy to Garmin/NewFiles; do not use the completed-activity Import Data page.

Garmin pool workouts require a pool length. Active sets use distance, while recovery uses time or an open lap-button step. See Garmin's pool-workout tips.

Before your first swim

Test the exact pool and handoff you plan to use.

Use a short workout and complete these checks within the 7-day refund window.

  1. 1
Save swim CV if you want target times

Check the pace ranges in Slow N Steady before adding the workout to Apple Watch.

  2. 2
Add a short Apple Watch swim

Preview it, grant scheduling permission, open it on Watch, and enter the correct pool length.

  3. 3
Check set transitions in the water

Confirm distance steps, recovery timing, repeat counts, step names, and manual lap-button behavior where used.

  4. 4
    Test the exact FIT transfer

Select the actual pool, save one .fit file, and move it through the Garmin, Files, email, or other proven path you intend to use.

  5. 5
    Confirm the saved result

Remember that Apple Watch completion does not return to Slow N Steady automatically. Use the app's manual workout log when needed.
